The Climate Action Plan(CAP)is an initiative of the City of Aspen in partnership with the Roaring Fork Valley community. CAP actions are designed to reflect the community’s understanding that a stable climate is foundational to the Aspen we all know and love.
The CAP articulates a goal of reducing emissions by 30% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. These reduction goals are based off 2007 greenhouse gas emissions. Check out our Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Greenhouse Gas Reductions page for more information. To learn more about our tracking and emissions measurement process, please contact Chris Menges.
The CAP focuses on actions in 6 major sectors that contribute significantly to regional emissions and have the greatest opportunity for regional impact. These actions are explained in detail under the linked sectors.
In 2007, when the CAP was first released, Aspen was one of the first mountain communities to adopt ambitious climate goals. We take pride in replicating and customizing innovative climate initiatives in large cities across the world and country for our local context in Aspen. In turn, we clear the path for other small cities and mountain communities to set and meet climate goals. One major initiative to share our work is the Greenhouse Gas Toolkit.
