Aspen Community Invited to Participate in Engagement Session on City Manager Recruitment

 The Aspen community is invited to attend an engagement session with recruitment firm Peckham & McKenney to provide input on desired qualities for the next city manager.  The engagement session input will contribute to shaping a candidate profile for the city manager position.

Discussion points for the public to weigh in on for the engagement session include the current and future challenges Aspen faces, service priorities, communication, management, and leadership style and approach, and community involvement philosophy.

The public may attend any session, which will be held on the following dates: Monday, May 13 from 8-9 a.m. at the Pitkin County Library Dunaway Meeting Room; Monday May 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Aspen Police Station Community Room; and Tuesday, May 14 from 12:15-1:45 p.m. at the Aspen Police Station Community Room.

“The community’s input will be integral in helping our recruitment firm establish what success looks like for this position,” said Alissa Farrell, HR Director and Interim Assistant City Manager.  “We want to attract high caliber candidates who are exceptional in their skill set and who understand the Aspen community.”

The City of Aspen has not undertaken a search for a new city manager in over two decades and this is a significant opportunity for the community to participate in the future of the City’s leadership.

The community’s input will help steer Peckham & McKenney in its search and ultimately the newly elected City Council in its hiring decision.  

The City’s current and future Council members and staff are also participating in similar input sessions.

A summary of the feedback will be presented to City Council on Tuesday, May 14 at a 4 p.m. work session, which is open to the public and will be broadcast on CGTV Channel 11 and City of Aspen Facebook page.  

Once a candidate profile is complete, the position will be advertised through mid-summer and interviews will take place in August.  Once finalists are selected, the community will be invited to meet them and offer insights and input.
