Aspen, CO – May 24, 2019 – On Friday, May 31, the City of Aspen will be making a temporary repair to pavement peel on the Castle Creek Bridge. Westbound (downvalley) traffic on the Castle Creek Bridge will be detoured via Power Plant Rd. from approximately 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastbound (upvalley) traffic will continue to use Castle Creek Bridge with intermittent holds for outbound buses.

During this time, crews will use hot mix patch asphalt to make temporary repairs to the pavement peel in the westbound lane near the west side of the bridge. Delays are anticipated. Follow flagger instructions and signage. Schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

“By addressing the pavement peel with a temporary patch, the city and CDOT can take necessary time to ensure the chosen solution is the best approach while preventing further damage,” said Pete Rice, Senior Project Manager for the City of Aspen engineering department.

Street parking along 6th Street will be temporarily closed during detour operations. Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) buses and school buses will be exempted from the detour and will be staged on 7th Street. At intermittent times, traffic control will stop inbound traffic to allow for the buses to cross the bridge.

It is anticipated that construction crews will return to the area in September, weather depending, for approximately three days to install a permanent fix that will be a coordinated effort between City of Aspen and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

These dates will be announced via travel advisory and the City of Aspen’s Road Closures and Construction NotifyMe email and text alerts. Sign up for notifications at
